There are so many moments in our lives that our peace can get disrupted and this is why it is important to have tools or ways that we can use to overcome stressful situations.
Let’s start by remembering that nobody can take our peace away except if we allow it. We tend to think that circumstances or people can rob us of our peace and we end up playing victim instead of taking full responsibility. At every moment of our lives, not matter how stressful, we can take control and respond with calmness, poise and faith instead of reacting with fear, anger, or disharmony. We are in charge of our emotions and we can direct them towards calmness and joy.
Also, we have to keep control of our minds and not allow our thoughts to run wild. In an instant, they can take us into negativity, despondency and out of control. We have to be strong and know that at any moment, we can be firm and choose to be calm. It is from a space of calmness that we can find solutions to our challenges because our mind is clear and our heart is calm.
There are many ways that we can use to cultivate inner peace and here are a few suggestions:
1. Breath. This is the easiest and more powerful tool we have to remain calm. One simple exercise you can do is to inhale and exhale 10 times and feel that as you inhale you bring peace into your being and as you exhale, you let go of anxiety, fear, anger, pain, etc.
2. Set boundaries with friends and family. Generally, it is when we over commit that we run into frustrations and anxiety. A simple practice of saying NO when we know that we cannot commit to something, can save us from stress and disappointment. This is an act of self-love and self-respect.
3. Calm your mind through meditation. This is the best gift that we can give to ourselves, to take time every day to sit down in silence with God, for as short as 15 minutes or longer, if possible. It is in this sacred space that we give some rest to our minds and we are able to relax and really feel that deep inside of us is that peace that surpasses all understanding.
4. Accept what you can’t change. One of the major ways that we create suffering in our lives is by wanting for things to be different than they are. We want to control people, circumstances, etc., not realizing that by doing this we are rejecting the flow of life that is trying to teach us to have patience, understanding, acceptance and faith. When we commit to doing our very best and leaving the rest to God is when everything starts flowing in our life.
5. Use the Power of Prayer. As you pray with devotion, intention, gratitude and faith, your prayers will be answered. God is a God of Love who wants to support and guide us. All we have to do is to open our hearts and minds to receive His Blessings. Pray giving thanks in advance for what you are about to receive. For example. Thank you, God, for the manifestation of my perfect new job. Thank you, God, for my excellent faith and vitality.
